Want To Generate Sales Today Rather Than In 12 Months? Then DON’T Become A Traffic Generation Expert!

The no.1 belief that was holding me back from making money for a LONG TIME use to be that I needed to know everything before I made a decision. In this instance I wanted to learn and master every possible way to generate targeted traffic. Some of the vehicles (and that’s all they are) for generating traffic I learned about included:

  • AdWords
  • Content network
  • Yahoo & MSN PPC
  • Squidoo
  • Articles
  • YouTube
  • Twitter
  • Facebook
  • Magazine ads
  • Forum posts
  • Directory listings
  • Banner ads
  • Joint ventures
  • Affiliate marketing
  • Viral reports and videos
  • Referrals
  • Blogs
  • and the list goes on and on…

After learning how to generate traffic from ALL those sources do you want to know how much I earned? $0.00…

You know why? Because all I was doing was learning rather than taking action upon what I learned. I was in my information overload phase and was trying to soak up everything I could which is good and bad. Without going too much off tangent, I want to tell you about what a paradox is and how it applies to business. A paradox is when you state a fact that is true, and then you state a completely opposite and conflicting fact which is also true. If you can’t recognize a paradox in business, then you will find it very hard to succeed because you’ll constantly be changing your opinion from one to the next and as a result will simply spin your wheels and not get anywhere.

So, how can you recognize a paradox you ask? The way I do it is simply understand that I don’t need to be 100% committed to one view point. Whilst one view point may be correct, a totally conflicting one maybe correct to. So what I do is Bruce Lee’s style of martial arts called Jeet Kune Do whereby you take what works and discard what doesn’t work. Applied to learning about traffic generation, you would understand that it’s important to soak up everything you can about the topic; but at the same time understand that you need to actually apply these traffic generation methods to your website as you learn them.

Another big mistake of mine was learning traffic generation BEFORE I even had a website to promote – so my advice would be have a product ready and THEN begin to learn or look further into traffic generation. Knowing how to generate traffic without having a product is useless. I know because I wasted about a year doing that.

I thought that if I learn all the ways to generate traffic then I’ll select the best ones and get the best ROI for doing my research. Do you know how long my research took? I am almost embarrassed to say, but it took me about 2 years to fully realize that I don’t need every possible source of traffic to generate sales – I can generate sales even with 1 traffic source. Once you truly realize this you are golden and the key to generating sales is in your hands.

I’m going to share a simple formula with you that will crystallize what I’m saying. I was fooled by its simplicity when I saw it before and as a result I spent a long time not making sales. Really think about this formula and don’t just look at it and say ‘oh yeah duh that’s obvious I knew that’ because if you’re not generating sales or getting as many sales as you would like THIS IS THE MAIN REASON why…

It takes X amount of visitors to generate 1 sale.

eg. If you have a 1% conversion rate, you need 100 targeted visitors to generate 1 sale.

Therefore if you want to get 10 sales/day you need to bring in 1000 targetted visitors/day

Back in the day when I was a newbie I use to get about 50 visitors/day and was only getting 1 sales every couple of days. What I did was test different headlines, auto responders, images, videos, guarantees, prices, etc and I had no noticeable difference in results – I still got 1 sale every couple of days. Can you see why? If we think in ‘The fast and the furious’ terms it’s like I was putting NOS, turbo boosters, quad exhausts and superchargers onto a cardboard box car. Obviously all those modifications make a dramatic difference, BUT only to a car that can handle them. In this case, my website was only generating 50 visitors/day and all the modifications I did (split tests) didn’t make any difference because my site couldn’t handle them.

So the no.1 thing that separates websites that make good money and websites that make barely anything is the amount of quality traffic that is coming to the site everyday – it’s as simple as that.

HOW TO BEGIN GENERATING SALES RIGHT NOW:

Find one traffic source and begin using it to drive traffic to your website. It doesn’t matter if your competitors have a better website or if they are advertising nearly everywhere, if you drive 100 targeted visitors to your site (and you have a 1% conversion rate) you WILL get a sale – it’s as simple as that.

Think about the above paragraph for a few minutes until something inside your head clicks and you jump up out of your seat and shout ‘I GET IT!!!’ at the top of your voice because once you get this, you truly have the key to generate sales for ANY business.

To get the ball rolling, I recommend you begin with one of the following traffic sources:

  • Make an AdWords campaign
  • Create a video and put it onto YouTube for a term that gets high traffic
  • Pay for a banner ad on a website about your niche
  • Recruit affiliates who already generate a large volume of traffic to their website
  • Get a JV partner to send an email about your product to their list
  • Think about something you can do RIGHT NOW.
